Note: EAOEdinburgh Assay Office Marks Archive shows Whytock & Sons' mark as W&S without serifs with mentions in the records from 1853 to 1867. This mark was seen on a boxed spoon & tong set dated 1886 with Whytock & Sons' name on the box. The mark also overstamps another mark. It is probably an unregistered mark.

W S 1858..1860 Spoon A similar mark but with one stop only between letters attributed by JacksonPickford, Ian, ed. - Jackson's Silver and Gold Marks of England, Scotland and Ireland,  Antique Collectors' Club, 1997 to William Sharp but dated only as "1848 to 1903". EAOEdinburgh Assay Office Marks Archive notes a similar mark from 1836 but unidentified.
